Encrypted hard drives

You cannot escape data being encrypted using Seagate’s DriveTrust Technology.

Perhaps this technology can avoid some future VA data theft, but I doubt it. A good attacker would social engineer his way to getting a replacement key from the poor customer service reps that will now have to deal with forgotten passwords.

It would make more sense if DriveTrust was tied into a trusted computing base and coupled with two-factor authentication. But that costs money and time to educate users. I doubt the VA cares enough for that to happen!
