Unshot bullets can still kill
Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 11:36PM We were watching a rather pointless comedy, The Survivors, the other night in which Robin Williams’s character decides to stop being a wimp and go Extreme Military Survival in the forzen North-east.
I recognized a prop in one of the shoot-out scenes. Anyone would. The Intratec TEC DC9, a.k.a. evil incarnate disguised as cool. This devil’s tool is based off the general issue sub-machine gun I carried in the Army back in Sweden. Its heyday during WW II aftermath, the M/45 has long since been abandoned. The armed forces now have new shiny toys.
Sweden has always had a booming weapons business. Some of the most reliable sure-fire killing machines have been conceived and produced in the stoic bucolic dark forests of idyllic and pastoral Sweden. Right next to where I used to live.
Legal and illegal gun running is at all time highs. Lethal turmoil wreaks havoc in pretty much all corners of the world.
And there I was, gladly clinching my Weapon Of Innocence Destruction, shooting myself blind on fake targets in vain wait for a made-up enemy, believing the fight was one that could be won by the highest muzzle velocity vs. rate of fire ratio.
It still makes me sick.
