The threat of splogs

Steve Rubel writes on how splogs threatens the blogosphere.

It’s a good read. The main issue isn’t that advertisers don’t take their responsibility, though, with the reasoning being that the advertisers make money on splogs.

It’s more of a lack of accountability. If there was a way to identify the author to some degree of certainty, then aggregators and readers could choose to ignore splogs because they would be authored by untrusted people.

One proposed solution to doing just that is up on http://signedping.com.
