Make presentations suck less
Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 09:33PM Presentations. Best friend or foe?
If you’re like me, and stuck by rules to use some sort of slides, I want to offer some advice. Others say it better, I am sure, but
- Don’t be boring. How many boring presentations have you sat through?
- Make them smile on slide #1. Don’t you just love guys who make you smile?
- Never tell them what you’re going to tell them. They’re not children.
- Never tell them what you’ve told them. Again, they’re not children.
- One word, two tops, per slide. If you can’t distill the meaning of your slide in less, your message will not come across.
- No flashy transitions, clip-art, glossy graphics. You’ll come across as someone with too much time on your hands.
- Slides are for the presentation. Refuse to hand out slides in advance or have them used as a summary for people who couldn’t attend. Instead, prepare a simple one-two page document to distribute.
