Dangerous by design

I recently bought a second car, a VW Jetta, from a friend. It works like a charm but one thing I can’t figure out is why VW decided to make the info console dashboard red.

Red is the color of danger, of warning, of hey, look at me! and so I find myself catching myself glancing down at this redness in the middle of the dash. It doesn’t matter that it’s not blinking, pulsing or moving. Red is red.

Why, oh why, VW? What an odd design choice!
