Google Desktop for Mac. Yay?
Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 07:44AM Google Desktop is finally available for the Mac. I’ve been longing for this. I use GD on Windows all the time and couldn’t do without it.
OS X of course has Spotlight, which has the nasty habit of indexing all drives, all the time. I’ve used Spotless to try to turn indexing off on external drives — one of which is a backup drive, so indexing it makes no sense — but whenever I reboot my machine, the indexing starts back on.
It’s like a curse.
I finally killed Spotlight all together in my hopes that GD would work as it does on the PC, but to it appears GD depends on Spotlight’s indexing the drives, so no luck there.
I’m not sure what to make of it. GD adds indexing of your gmail (or gmail for apps), but apart from that, is GD just a shell around spotlight? Quite confusing, indeed.

i've never had spotlight resume indexing volumes it isn't supposed to. very strange.
Though I noticed lately that when I wake up from sleep, I don't get the username/password dialog, but get plopped right in.
Something does seems screwed up.
