NEVER TOO OLD TO BE YOUNG synopsis Hans Granqvist, 192 Sunol Street, San Jose, CA 95126 hans@granqvist.com MORTON (46) is an accountant who keeps getting turned down for jobs. At his last interview at a hip record company, Groove Records, a snotty young interviewer, PAUL (22), completely ruined his day. His ex-wife has taken all from him, and in a few days, she will take his house. When the house goes, his sister, BETTY (44), will lose the main collateral to a loan on her coffee shop... Morton and Betty need money. Desperately. Morton believes all employers think he is too old. Betty previously ran a beauty salon, and fed up with his complaining, she transforms Morton with wigs and makeup into KEVIN, a man half Morton's age. Kevin goes to interview again at Groove Records, this time for an assistant job. On the way to the interview, Kevin narrowly avoids an accident with an aggressive driver. In the parking lot, Kevin mistakes the driver to be CARMEN (44), a manager at Groove Records, and chews her out. Kevin later realizes his mistake when Paul shows up, driving the same model car as Carmen. After a rude and abusive interview with Paul, a brat in favored status at Groove Records, Kevin is summarily dismissed, but Carmen hires him to avoid a scandal and a lawsuit. Even though his job is a lesser one compared to a CPA accounting gig, Kevin now makes more money than he's ever done before. Carmen pairs Kevin with DWAYNE (20's), a uge man with a knack for beats and rhythm. Dwayne is responsible for new acquisitions in hip hop and rap music. After an encounter with RICK (40's), a particularly disgusting colleague manager, Carmen takes a meeting with her real employer. It turns out Rick recently hired Carmen to work undercover with finding out who is skimming money from the company. Carmen wants out, but is persuaded to continue. The next day, Carmen meets Rick again. After pretending to be apologetic, Rick tries to seduce Carmen. Rick has a sex appeal that Carmen has trouble resisting. Kevin happens to walk by outside Carmen's office, and upon hearing noises from inside he breaks down the office door and pushes Rick into the wall. Afterward, Kevin discusses Rick with Dwayne, who thinks Rick is stealing from the company. Rick is Dwayne's boss, and Dwayne says he has noticed things. Dwayne also thinks the accountants of the company must be in on Rick's scheme. Meanwhile, Carmen again begs to be removed from her assignment. She loathes herself for having to pretend falling for Rick again. Dwayne invites Kevin to go a hip hop club in the evening to check up on some new acts. They pass by the accountancy department, where Dwayne invites an accounting assistant friend. While they chat, Kevin learns where and how the accountancy files are kept and how there is a slight mismanaging in securing them. Kevin invites Carmen to the club, and she surprisingly says yes, why not, she will go, since she needs to get her minds off Rick for a while. Before Kevin leaves work in the evening, he sneaks back into the accountancy department and looks in the accounting books: Rick is indeed the culprit. Kevin doesn't realize that Paul, Rick's henchman, sees and films him as he rummages through the internal files. At the club, Carmen shows up. She dances passionately with Kevin, who doesn't have a lot of rhythm in his blood. Carmen cannot stay long, and leaves after a while. Kevin gets a bit drunk on free booze, and Dwayne takes him home. Paul tails them, driving behind them at a distance, doing his best to act like a sleuth. Dwayne carries Kevin inside, and Dwayne learns the truth about Kevin and Morton. At the same time, Kevin learns a truth about Dwayne: he really is not that interested in rap or hip hop, but classical music, in particular Spanish guitar music, which he knows how to play very well. Paul clatters around outside, almost getting caught by Dwayne, but now Paul also knows these secrets. The next day at work, Rick has Lisa fired. Rick also makes sure security is considerably beefed up in the accounting department. After making sure all the evidence is still there, Paul and Rick decides to 'out' Kevin at the next day's big company party. At work, Kevin meets Carmen and they arrange to help each other gift shopping in the evening: Carmen invents a nephew of Kevin's age and could use some help selecting gifts. Kevin invents an aunt and he needs Carmen's help picking something out. At the mall, their mutual admiration and excitment continues growing. They begin to fall in love. The way Kevin helps picking out clothes is mirrored in Carmen's means of finding music. The next day, Kevin tries to explain to Carmen about Rick. She doesn't believe him: she suspects Dwayne is the one stealing and that Kevin and Dwayne are making this up together. Why would Rick hire her to find the thief if he is the thief? When Kevin tells Dwayne that Dwayne is the prime suspect, Dwayne realizes that Rick will try to pin this on him, and they agree they have to plan something to nail Rick. Then in the evening: the party. Kevin shows up with Betty. She now looks half her age, too. Betty puts the move on Rick, and invites him to the men's restroom, where Dwayne hides and swipes Rick's electronic entrance key. Kevin uses the key to gain access to the accounting department. With Dwayne's appropriate music choice shielding Kevin's loud hammering to break into the locked file cabinets, Kevin can break into the files and get the evidence. Dwayne manages to get the key back to Rick just in time. When Kevin presents the evidence to Carmen, Rick shows up and shows the footage Paul shot of him breaking in. Carmen has no choice but to fire Kevin. In desperation, Kevin shows himself as Morton and declares his love for her. This misfires, badly. Carmen calls out she hates him and runs off, crying. In the commotion Dwayne takes care of the evidence. The next day, Morton shows up at work, but Carmen has quit. No one knows or want to tell him where she is. Morton searches for days for Carmen, but no luck. Meanwhile, Carmen sets up a new company together with an old friend. Back at Groove Records, Dwayne finally contacts the federal government and gives them the evidence. He knew that when Rick is arrested, his job will be gone. Carmen finds out the truth about Rick and goes to re-embrace Morton. Through Dwayne, she finds his whereabouts and tells Dwayne not to ruin the surprise moment as she goes to look him up to tell him her feelings for him. Morton is beat. He hasn't left his house for days. Betty manages to get him going and they go out to have lunch at a nearby restaurant. As they are ordering on the patio, Carmen drives by and mistakes Betty for Morton's girlfriend. Carmen is devastated as she drives away. A while later, Dwayne realizes the reunion misfired and sets Morton up with an interview at Carmen's new company. This time it's Carmen's turn to be surprised as Morton shows up. In the end, Carmen and Morton re-unite at the interview. A while later Morton takes Carmen to see Betty's fixed-up coffee shop. (Dwayne split the reward for catching Rick with Morton, and Morton gave his share to Betty.) As they enjoy the coffee at Betty's now bustling coffee shop, Dwayne appears on stage and plays the classical guitar.
